My name is Makaia Haight and I am from Mechanicsville, Virginia. In May of 2025, I graduated from Virginia Tech with a dual degree in Dairy Science and Animal and Poultry Sciences. After volunteering in Dr. Gerrard's lab for a year and a half, I developed a strong interest in muscle biology. In a food microbiology class, I fell in love with microbes. I am combining both of these passions in Dr. Jason Scheffler's lab by investigating meat microbiology using the sous vide cooking method.
