We’re excited to introduce Shelter Cat Behavior & Welfare, a new course that brings hands-on learning with cats to Virginia Tech. This innovative program gives students the opportunity to work directly with cats from animal shelters, focusing on enrichment, behavior, and welfare in a dedicated feline housing environment.

Cats in the program live in our campus cattery, where students gain practical experience while helping prepare them for adoption. Adoption events are also held at the cattery, creating a welcoming space for the community to meet, foster, and adopt these cats.

This is the first time we’ve offered a course like this, and programs that work with cats in this way are still relatively rare at universities across the country. We’re proud to be part of a growing movement in feline-focused education and welfare.
