    HEIFERS at Virginia Tech

    Gain valuable hands-on experience with dairy heifers while helping to develop a successful show string. All are welcome. No previous knowledge or experience are required.

    One of the oldest teams on campus and still as relevant as 100 years ago. Develop your problem analysis and solving skills, learn to make decisions with logic and confidence, improve teamwork, self-discipline, and communication skills. National Champions: 2022, 2013, 2009, 2008, 2006!

    The North American Intercollegiate Dairy Challenge (NAIDC) is an innovative competition for students representing dairy science programs at North American universities. Its mission is to facilitate education, communication and an exchange of ideas among students, agribusiness, dairy producers and universities that enhances the development of the dairy industry and its leaders.

    A blend of learning, competition, and networking, the Livestock Judging Team allows students to apply the principles they have learned in order to evaluate various livestock while competing against teams across the country using knowledge, decision-making, communication, and presentation skills.

    The dairy youth program offers many opportunities for dairy youth and volunteer leaders to increase their dairy knowledge and skill in four general areas: dairy industry knowledge, dairy cattle judging, dairy cattle fitting and showing, and and dairy industry promotion.

    The 4-H Youth Livestock Program is the largest animal science project area enabling youth to develop their interest in beef cattle, sheep, and swine in their 4-H projects.

    The emphasis of Virginia's 4-H Horse and Pony program is project based learning about equine selection, nutrition, management, riding, recreation, fun, competition, horsemanship, and sportsmanship. Horseback riding provides an outdoor sports fitness program for physical, personal, and emotional development, including confidence building. The sport can develop into a life-long hobby or career. Projects are available for youth owning or having access to horses, and also for youth not having access to horses (horseless horse projects).

    Hokie Cow Classic

    Proceeds from the Hokie Cow Classic Golf Tournament support travel costs of the Virginia 4H Teams, Virginia Tech Dairy Challenge and Judging Teams, as well as funding scholarships and student recruiting.

    Hokie Harvest

    This annual sale is traditionally held the last weekend in October. The Hokie Harvest Sale provides an experiential learning environment for students with the opportunity to organize and conduct a livestock sale of university-owned beef cattle and horses.
