Sophia Cheng

Sophia Cheng
Major: Animal and Poultry Sciences
Minor: Biodiversity Conservation
Hometown: Vienna, Virginia
After graduation:
I plan to either attend vet school or get my master's degree while working in wildlife rehab.
I was a member of:
the Chinese American Society. Last year, I was the clothing chair for Polo Club. I currently serve as the treasurer for Sheep and Goat Club, and I am the founder and president of Minorities in Pre-Vet.
I also worked as:
a member of the SAS Community Council and a barn hand at a local horse stable.
Undergraduate research I have participated in:
I was part of TEAM MALAWI last year. We worked on using Raman spectroscopy to identify trematodes in Malawi’s main water source.
My biggest achievement is:
founding Minorities in Pre-Vet! I am so, so proud of the opportunities and community we have been able to provide.
My favorite fun fact:
is that the campus was built over Stroubles Creek! It currently runs under the Drillfield and eventually joins up with the New River.
My favorite VT memory:
was finding a nearly complete deer skeleton at The Big Plant 2023! I got to spend time with friends planting trees and also got to take some cool bones home that I re-articulated!
Some music that defines my time at Virginia Tech:
ok with it by Lyn Lapid, Vengeance by BIBI, and On the Ground by ROSÉ
The thing I am most excited for in the future is:
to work in veterinary pathology or internal medicine either with companion animals or wildlife!
My advice to incoming freshman is:
make the most of your tuition and use the resources offered by VT! We have resume reviews, professional headshots, finals week relaxation events, cheesy nights, mock interviews, office hours, 3D printing studio, and so much more included in tuition.
