Brandon Duncan

Degree: Animal and Poultry Sciences
Minor: Biodiversity Conservation
Hometown: Woodbridge, Virginia

After graduation:

I will be attending Virginia-Maryland College of Veterinary Medicine to become a mixed animal veterinarian.

I was a member of:
the Pre-Veterinary Medical Association and Polo Club.

I also worked as:
a CALS and SAS Ambassador, Residential-Well Being Student Leader, Student Digital Content Producer for VT Admissions, and SAS Community Council.

Undergraduate research I have participated in:
I am an undergraduate research lab assistant in Dr. El-Kadi’s research lab, where we study fatty acid analysis in neonatal pigs under different lenses of studies.

My biggest achievement is:
making an impact in almost every aspect of Virginia Tech! From helping first-year students acclimate and feel seen in the residence halls, to assisting rising students in my department, speaking to prospective students at open house event, to also sharing my stories on the VT Admissions platform, it has allowed me to touch the hearts of students that I may or may not ever see!

My favorite Virginia Tech fun fact:
is that there is a beautiful and thoughtful story behind our pillars of community, in regards to the Pylons, to which I learned from Colonel Roszak.

My favorite VT memory:
would have to be rushing the field with my friends when we beat UVA!

Some music that defines my time at Virginia Tech:
Live Your Life by Yuna, Life Will Be by Cleo Sol, and Smells like Teen Spirit by Nirvana

The thing I am most excited for in the future is:
to always carry my memories of VT with me and make my alma mater prouder! I cannot wait to continue my studies and give back to countless lives.

My advice to incoming freshman is:
don’t let your uncomfortable feelings hinder your growth! Push yourself out of your comfort zone and I guarantee it will only make you an EXCEPTIONAL person!

Some parting words:
Thank you to all of the wonderful SAS and CALS faculty that have supported me along the way. I am ever so grateful for all of your guidance, and I will never forget it nor you!
