Dr. Jiang is interested in understanding the cellular and molecular mechanisms by which hormones and nutrients regulate tissue and whole body growth in domestic animals and the mouse model, and eventually using the knowledge to improve production efficiency in agricultural animals and health in humans. His lab is currently working in the following areas:

  1. Cellular and molecular mechanisms by which growth hormone and IGF-I regulate skeletal muscle, adipose tissue and liver growth.
  2.  Identification of novel genes, miRNAs and bioactive molecules that regulate skeletal muscle and adipose tissue development and growth.
  3. Role of short-chain fatty acids (also called volatile fatty acids), in particular butyrate, in microbial and nutritional regulation of rumen development and adipose tissue growth.
