Prashant Ghimire
- Dairy Management
I am Prashant Ghimire, originally from Nepal. I grew up in a Nepalese rural context wherein while caring for animals alongside my parents, I developed an early bond with domestic animals like cattle and buffalo, which nurtured my interest in Veterinary Science and Animal Husbandry.
Following that I pursued a Bachelor's degree in Veterinary Science and Animal Husbandry (BVSc and A.H.) at Agriculture and Forestry University, Nepal. During my years of study, I worked closely with large ruminants through clinical rotations, field visit and my undergraduate thesis on subclinical mastitis in yaks (Bos grunniens, indigenous cattle of high altitude). Upon graduating as the top student of my faculty, I fulfilled the requirements of the Nepal Veterinary Council and registered my name as a certified veterinary doctor of Nepal. After my graduation in February 2024, I was searching for the opportunities that would allow me to further explore my interest in large ruminants and work closely with dairy cattle. Following my interest, I joined the Department of Animal and Poultry Sciences at Virginia Tech to pursue a Master's degree in Animal Science starting Fall 2024.
I am currently working as a Graduate Research Assistant under Dr. Ferreira, where our research focuses on the improving the techniques for understanding fiber digestion kinetics. I aim to contribute to the development of evidence-based strategies for the efficient utilization of dietary fiber in the dairy industry, promoting sustainable growth in the sector.
