Anastacia Paramo
- Animal Behavior & Welfare
I was born and raised in the Chicago suburbs and received my B.S. in Animal Science from the University of California, Davis. Back home, I volunteered at my local animal shelter as a dog socializer, where I discovered my passion for working in shelter settings. During my undergraduate studies, I gained experience as a veterinary technician and research assistant in multiple labs, which fostered my interest in animal behavior and welfare.
I have worked with a variety of species, including dairy calves, captive dolphins, and companion animals, and it was through shelter-based research that I solidified my desire to pursue a career in this field.
Currently, I am pursuing my master's degree under the guidance of Dr. Lisa Gunter, conducting research on shelter dog welfare. My goal is to improve the lives of the animals in shelters and deepen our understanding of their behavior.
